It's Never Too Late to Learn to Read and Write!  Literacy Learner and Volunteer

Adult Learners and Volunteers team up to build basic reading, writing, and/or speaking skills. The results can be positively life-changing for both the adult learner and the tutor.

One-to-One Tutoring

  • Adults who want to improve their basic reading, writing and/or speaking skills meet with a trained volunteer.
  • Instruction is based on each individual's pace, level and goals.
  • Examples of some common goals include being able to read to a child, pass the driver's license test, write a letter, talk with neighbors or get a better job.
  • Meet Greg, an adult learner in a library literacy program who shares his story.
  • Pairs meet at their local library once or twice a week for one to two hours. They meet at a time that is good for them.
  • Sign-up! Visit the Literacy Office at the Civic Center Library, call (925) 373-5507 or email literacy@livermoreca.gov.

English Conversation Groups

  • Adults who want to practice speaking English meet with a small group at the library.
  • Learn together with other adults and a friendly, trained volunteer. Make new friends.
  • All levels welcome.
  • No sign-up needed, just come.
  • Groups meet many different days and times. Please visit our English Conversation Groups page for the current schedule.
