Shruti Abhishek Performs Bharatanatyam South Indian Dance

Join Shruti Abhishek, an Indian dancer and choreographer for a performance of Bharatanatyam, a South Indian dance. Characterized by precise movements, dynamic hand gestures, and facial expressions this art form breaks boundaries in exploring contemporary as well as traditional themes.

This free all-ages event on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Storytime is part of the Authors & Arts series which is sponsored by the Friends of the Livermore Public Library

Abhishek began her training with her first teacher Rohini M. Singhi in Mumbai and continued to earn her performing arts degree from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya. She has Political Science and Philosophy degrees from Jai-Hind College in Mumbai. She currently trains under Vaibhav Arekar from Mumbai. Shruti was a part of many of Sankhya Dance Company's dance productions and tours directed by Vaibhav Arekar. In 2018, Shruti founded Kshetram, an intergenerational dance institution based in Livermore and Pleasanton, California. A direct response to her growing knowledge about dance, culture, appropriation, tradition, and embodiment, Kshetram helps keep Indian traditions alive in California while also offering space to reflect on how Indian traditions continue to transform, evolve, and grow with each new generation.
