Then & Now: Livermore Stories. “Beyond the Movie ‘Oppenheimer’” presented by Tom Ramos

Tom Ramos will explore the events portrayed in “Oppenheimer” and explain how Livermore ended up being the site of a nuclear weapons laboratory. He will also discuss a nuclear crisis during Kennedy’s administration that eclipsed the Cuban missile crisis. Physicist Tom Ramos has had several roles for the past 40 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He served as a member of the nuclear team that developed the X-ray laser for President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative. He also supported U.S. arms control negotiations for START, and over a span of 17 years, he created and ran the CAPS program for the Department of Defense.
