Accepting Livermore Teen Academy Applications Until March 24

Local Livermore teens are invited to apply to take part in the Livermore Teen Academy, a three-week summer program from June 12-30. The Academy is scheduled Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Academy includes a series of interactive workshops hosted at the Civic Center Library, which cover topics such as personal finance and job searching skills, as well as information about local government and becoming an engaged and informed citizen. The Academy also includes a short paid internship, totaling 24-hours, with the City of Livermore.

Internships take into account the interests and skills of the participants. Internship time during the Academy will be paid at $15.50 an hour. Selected participants will report to their assigned internship sites on internship days. When asked what they liked best about the program, 2019 Academy Graduates said, “I liked the real-world experience that I gained through my internship. I am leaving with a better understanding of how a professional workplace operates,” and that they liked “The general tour and overview of the City and city government in the first week, because I learned a surprisingly large number of things.”

To be eligible, participants will need to be Livermore residents and students attending or entering High School in the Fall of 2023. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older by the first day of the program (June 12, 2023). Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview process. Based on the interview results, a limited number of teens will be selected to participate in the Academy. Participants from previous years are not eligible. Application materials are available on the Livermore Public Library’s Teen webpage.

The deadline to complete and return applications for the Livermore Teen Academy is Friday, March 24, 2023. Bring your completed application to the Civic Center Library Information Desk or email it to njbrumley@livermoreca.gov by 6 p.m. on March 24.
