Dave Yeamans will give a free presentation entitled “The Journey to Photograph All Fifty State Birds." In 2013 Mr. Yeamans began his journey to photograph all 50 state birds in their respective states. After nine years and lots of travel, he finally got them all, and he will share photos and stories of his experiences.
Mr. Yeamans spent most of his life in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he was outdoors as much as possible and learned to hike, camp, raft the rivers, and find his way around on cliffs. He has been a leader of Explorer Post 20, a Colorado River guide, a machinist, an inventor, and an employee at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As an Outward Bound instructor, his bird interest began to take wing.
After retiring, he settled into a serious birding addiction which involved leading numerous trips for the Pajarito Environmental Education Center in Los Alamos, New Mexico over the years, banding birds, attending Christmas Bird Counts, feeding birds, and keeping records of his observations. His life list of North American birds includes 611 species with 478 of those photographed. Mr. Yeamans now lives in California and continues to help conserve birds and bird habitat.
