Library Celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month is honored and celebrated from May 1 – May 31, 2026. It’s a time for Livermore Public Library (LPL) to celebrate the history and cultural impact of the AANHPI community. All are invited to attend free events and utilize the offered resources and services to learn more about this nationally celebrated month.

  • May 1 – 31, 2026, Springtown Take & Make: AANHPI Heritage Month, Springtown Library.  Collect a kit during library hours to make a craft celebrating Asian American inventors. 
  • May 3, 2026, at 2 p.m. Author Visit: Angie Kang at the Civic Center Library. Would you like to meet a children’s book author-illustrator? This is your chance for a meet and greet with Angie Kang to learn about writing and illustrating.
  • May 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. Calligraphy with Artist Wei-Ting at the Civic Center Library. Celebrate AANHPI month by learning Chinese calligraphy to create a bookmark with the artist Wei-Ting! This program is for adults, registration required.
  • May 15, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. K-Pop Demon Hunter Party at Rincon Branch Library. Celebrate all things K-Pop Demon Hunters with crafts, snacks, and more! For all ages.
  • May 16, 2026, at 2 p.m. In Conversation with Author Elaine Castillo at the Civic Center Library. Author Elaine Castillo will be at the Civic Center Library to read from her latest book Moderation and engage in a conversation about her writing journey. There will be time following the presentation for audience Q&A as well as a book signing.
  • May 24, 2026, Filipino Banig Drawing Workshop at the Civic Center Library. Artist and author Kenneth Tan leads a beginner‑friendly class on drawing banigs, traditional Filipino woven mats. Explore line patterns inspired by Filipino weaving and tattoos, then create your own unique banig illustration. This calming, creative workshop is open to adults on a first‑come, first‑served basis. No drawing experience or registration required.
