Black History Month is honored and celebrated from February 1 – 28, 2026. It’s a time for Livermore Public Library (LPL) to celebrate the history and cultural impact of Black Americans. All are invited to attend free events and utilize the offered resources and services to learn more about this nationally celebrated month.
- February 1 – 28, 2026 Art of the African Diaspora Exhibit, Civic Center Library. Art Of The African Diaspora, in partnership with Richmond Art Center, supports artists of African descent in the Bay Area through representation, professional development, and building a creative community. Visit a satellite exhibit at Civic Center Library during Black History Month.
- February 1 – 28, 2026 Black History Month Trivia Bulletin Board, all branches. Test your knowledge and learn more about important figures in Black History.
- February 3 – 28, 2026 Take & Make Craft, Springtown Library. Come and collect a kit inspired by the book Something, Someday by Amanda Gorman and Christian Robinson.
- February 7, 2026 at 2 p.m.: Author Talk with Dr. Akilah Cadet at the Civic Center Library. Join Cadet as she speaks about her book, White Supremacy is All Around: Notes from a Black Disabled Woman in a White World, and what it is like living at the intersection of many identities. ASL interpretation will be provided.
- February 12, 2026 at 5 p.m.: Game Night at Longevity Wines. The Library will be hosting a family friendly game night at the Longevity Wines Tasting Room. Attendees can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy while they play.
- February 19, 2026 at 6 p.m.: Tri-Valley for Black Lives Trivia Night at the Civic Center Library. Enjoy a night of Trivia for a chance to win prizes!
- February 20, 2026 at 3:30 p.m.: Baba Shibambo at the Rincon Branch Library. This program will be an interactive, high-energy performance that takes the audience on “a journey back into the heart of ancient Africa through music and story.” Baba Shibambo will play and have the audience participate by also playing traditional African instruments. He will present an authentic Zulu folktale set to music. The audience will have the chance to learn traditional African dance moves and learn the background of the dances.
- February 22, 2026 at 2 p.m.: Ashley Jemison and Company Concert at the Civic Center Library. In celebration of Black History Month join Ashley Jemison and Company for a special musical performance.
- February 28, 2026 at 10:15 am.: Black History Month Storytelling with Diane Ferlatte at the Civic Center Library. Grammy-nominated storyteller Diane Ferlatte brings her tales to life while accompanied by her musical sidekick Erik Pearson on banjo and guitar.
- February 28, 2026 at 11 a.m.: Art of the African Diaspora Reception at the Civic Center Library. Meet and greet with artists who have artwork featured in the Art of the African Diaspora Exhibit.
