Register for Park After Dark – Traps & Night Blooms

Livermore Public Library, in partnership with LARPD, invites the community to explore the wonders of the nighttime environment. Registration is required for this program. To reserve a spot, please call 925-373-5505. Parking at the site is free, though space is limited. This unique evening program will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Sycamore Grove Park Nature Area, located at 4365 Arroyo Rd., Livermore, CA 94550.

Participants will discover what emerges in the park after sunset through an engaging, guided experience. The program will begin with the setup of light traps designed to attract nocturnal insects, offering a close-up look at species that are rarely seen during daylight hours. Attendees will then enjoy a slow, approximately one-mile walk along Dry Creek, where they will learn about the nighttime-blooming Sacred Datura plant and the moths that rely on it for survival.

Guests of all ages are welcome to bring flashlights or headlamps; however, their use will be limited throughout the evening to preserve the natural nighttime setting and enhance wildlife observation opportunities.

Also, it's Summer Learning time through August 4, 2026! Register at Livermore.beanstack.org or on the Beanstack app. Paper gameboards are also available at all Livermore Library locations. Everyone receives a free book just for signing up! Participants who track their reading and activities will earn raffle tickets towards drawings for prizes. Thanks to Friends of the Livermore Library and our other partners for making the Summer Learning program and events possible.
