Verse on the Vine: Voices from the Range

Join us for an afternoon of poetry and prose celebrating the spirit of the West! Hosted by Livermore Poet Laureate Peggy Schimmelman, this event features acclaimed cowboy poets Wendy Brown and Jim Cardwell, followed by an open mic—bring your own poem or story to share!

About the Poets:

Wendy Brown – A published cowboy poet from Mariposa, Wendy’s work is inspired by horseback adventures in the High Sierra. She coordinated the Cannonball Cowboy Gathering for seven years and has led youth poetry workshops and contests. Her collection includes Mountain Majesty and Other Poems: Anatomy of a Cowboy Poet.

Jim Cardwell – Writing and performing poetry for over four decades, Jim is a regular at the Elko Cowboy Poetry Gathering. A retired ER nurse and weekend cowboy, he now focuses on poetry and storytelling while tending his garden and enjoying life as a grandfather.

The event is part of the Livermore Reads Together community reading program, featuring the novel "Silver Lies" by Ann Parker. Pick up a copy or borrow one from us and read along.
