Author Dr. Akilah Cadet at Civic Center Library

What is it like to live at the intersection of many identities? In celebration of Black History Month author Dr. Akilah Cadet will be at the Civic Center Library to discuss this, her book White Supremacy is All Around: Notes From a Black Disabled Woman in a White World, and more! This is a free event with no registration required, and ASL interpretation will be provided. Attendees will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a free signed copy of Dr. Cadet's book.

Dr. Akilah Cadet is the Founder and CEO of Change Cadet, an organizational development and creative consulting firm. As a Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneur her work is behind some of the biggest brands you use every day. Dismantling white supremacy through storytelling is at the core of her work as a leader, speaker, creative director, producer, writer, editor, co-owner of the Oakland Roots and Soul soccer teams, and author of White Supremacy is All Around: Notes From a Black Disabled Woman in a White World. She literally has all the degrees, lives in and loves Oakland, CA, celebrates her disability, is a proud Beyoncé advocate, and has an incredible shoe game.

The Author Talk with Dr. Akilah Cadet is part of our Black History Month event programming happening through February 28, 2026. Celebrate the history and cultural impact of Black Americans.
