Then & Now: Valley Vernacular - The Paintings of Carolyn Lord

Then & Now: Livermore Stories is a local history lecture series co-presented by the Livermore Heritage Guild and the Livermore Public Library. Carolyn Lord will give a presentation entitled “Valley Vernacular: The Paintings of Carolyn Lord” on Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. in the Storytime Room of the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Ave. Registration is not required to attend this free program for adults.

Carolyn Lord began painting local scenes after she moved to Livermore in 1980. In this slide presentation, she will show her paintings of Livermore from the 1980s to the present and share personal insights. Topics include architectural styles, infrastructure, immigration, and cultural history.

Carolyn was introduced to the California Regionalist Watercolor Tradition while attending Principia College in Elsah, IL. A Studio Arts Major, her Liberal Arts studies included botany and architectural history, which became favorite painting motifs. A Livermore resident since 1980, she has painted the city’s gardens, buildings, and landscape, exhibiting her work in local, regional, and national venues. "Valley Vernacular" was the title of her 2024 solo-show at Firehouse Art Center, Pleasanton, and is the inspiration for this presentation.
