NEW! Thursday Classic Mystery Book Club

The Livermore Public Library announces the launch of a new book club, The Thursday Classic Mystery Book Club, which will meet on the third Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Boardroom of the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Ave.  The club will select and read, each month, a mystery novel published before 1960. Selected books will be by Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, Rex Stout, John Dickson Carr, Erle Stanley Gardner, Ngaio Marsh, Dashiell Hammett, Ellery Queen, and other well-known authors. The Thursday Classic Mystery Book Club is led by Jim Aikin, a local writer.

The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler is the book selection for the club’s first meeting on Thursday, June 19 at 2 p.m. Registration is not required to attend the club’s meetings.

Book Summary: “Philip Marlowe, a private eye who operates in Los Angeles's seamy underside during the 1930s, takes on his first case, which involves a paralyzed California millionaire, two psychotic daughters, blackmail, and murder.” –the publisher

All ages can join the fun and sign up (if you haven't already) for Summer Learning at Livermore.beanstack.org or on the Beanstack app. Paper gameboards are also available at all Livermore Library locationsSummer Learning runs until August 6, 2025. Participants who track their reading and activities have a chance to win prizes. Everyone receives a free book just for signing up!
